Overview

Tirzepatide (LY3298176) is a synthetic peptide dual agonist that simultaneously binds and activates both the GIP (glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide) and GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) receptors. It is the first dual incretin receptor agonist to reach advanced clinical development and regulatory approval. Its unique mechanism -- equal or superior affinity at both GIP and GLP-1 receptors compared to native incretins -- has made it one of the most extensively researched peptides in metabolic biology.
