Overview

Bacteriostatic Water (BAC Water) is sterile water for injection preserved with 0.9% benzyl alcohol -- the standard vehicle for reconstituting lyophilized peptides and research compounds. The benzyl alcohol acts as a bacteriostatic agent, inhibiting bacterial growth and allowing a single vial to be used for multiple withdrawals over weeks while maintaining sterility. All lyophilized peptides sold by Quebic Labs require reconstitution with a sterile aqueous vehicle prior to use in research applications. BAC Water is the most widely used reconstitution vehicle for peptide research due to its multi-use stability and compatibility with virtually all peptide compounds.

Reconstitution Guidelines

• Add BAC water slowly down the inner wall of the vial -- do not inject directly onto the lyophilized powder
• Gently swirl until the powder fully dissolves -- do not shake or vortex, as this may damage peptide structure
• Allow dissolution at room temperature before proceeding
• Typical reconstitution volumes: 1-2mL per 5mg peptide vial
• Store reconstituted peptide solutions refrigerated (2-8C) and use within 28 days

BAC Water vs. Sterile Water

Bacteriostatic Water is preferred over plain sterile water for peptide reconstitution because the benzyl alcohol preservative allows the reconstituted solution to remain stable in the vial for up to 28 days under refrigeration, rather than requiring single-use within hours. Plain sterile water should only be used when the entire reconstituted volume will be consumed in a single session.
